Chewy is a lovable little Chihuahua mix with the sweetest personality and an adorable goofy streak that shines once he feels safe. While he may be shy at first, give him a little time and you’ll discover a playful, silly companion who will absolutely steal your heart. In his foster home, Chewy’s favorite thing is playing with his best friend, Ledi, who came into rescue with him. He loves racing around the yard like a little rocket, sneaking off with toys to stash them in his favorite spot, and settling in with a good bone to chew. One of his foster family’s favorite things is watching his signature “Chewy waddle” as he proudly plods back from a toy adventure—it’s impossible not to smile! New people and unfamiliar places can make Chewy a bit cautious. He’s the type who likes to hang back, observe, and investigate things on his own terms before deciding everything is safe. Once you’ve earned his trust, though, you’ll see just how affectionate, playful, and entertaining he truly is. Chewy enjoys the company of other dogs, especially pups his own size, and would likely do best in a home with a similarly sized canine companion to play with and help him continue building confidence. He and Ledi love playing together, chewing on bones side by side, and enjoying all the little adventures the backyard has to offer. Chewy is a smart little guy who is crate trained, potty trained, and walks nicely on a leash. He would thrive with a patient family that understands shy dogs and is willing to let him build confidence at his own pace. If you’re looking for a gentle soul with a goofy personality, a love of toys, and a heart that’s just waiting to blossom, Chewy might be your perfect match.   Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe.
