Description

Meet Brunson (Bernie)! Brunson is a handsome, approximately 5-year-old, 20-pound pug with a heart full of love and enough devotion to stick to you like industrial-strength Velcro. Before making his way to rescue, Brunson was confiscated from his original owner and entered a shelter. From there, he was welcomed into the care of our rescue partner, Pug Nation LA, where his journey to a brighter future began. He then embarked on an incredible cross-country adventure with Pumba's Paws Pet Transport, traveling by van from California all the way to New England in search of the forever family he deserves. This sweet boy has quickly won over everyone he's met. Brunson is affectionate, loyal, curious, playful, adaptable, and incredibly people-focused. If you're looking for a shadow, Brunson is ready for the job. His foster describes his level of "velcrosity" as less ordinary Velcro and more Gorilla Max Strength Construction Adhesive. Simply put, Brunson's favorite place in the world is right next to his person. Level up by stroking his back and face and you will be "bonded" for life! Physical connection is Brunson's love language. Brunson gets along very well with other dogs and enjoys playing with his canine friends, though he occasionally needs a reminder about appropriate manners (just don't touch his food). He has also done well around cats, although a cat who runs may trigger a playful chase. Litter boxes will need to be in an inaccessible location. While his foster hasn't had the opportunity to observe him with children, Brunson's loving nature suggests he will make friends wherever he goes. When he's not soaking up attention, Brunson enjoys treats (crunchies), and basking in the sun in the yard. He hasn't shown much interest in toys, but he is still a short timer in foster care (2 weeks) so he may develop an interest as time passes.  One of his most charming quirks is the joyful full-body wiggle he does when he's excited or when someone talks to him. It's impossible not to smile when you see it. Brunson wants to be part of the conversation, literally! Brunson is still learning the ropes of home life. He is not yet house-trained and will need a patient adopter committed to helping him succeed. A belly band is helpful while he continues working on his manners. He is comfortable riding in the car, tolerates crate time reasonably well, and is currently learning basic commands. He is a high jumper! Keep items that could cause him harm well out of reach. With kindness, consistency, and reassurance, he continues to grow more confident every day. Brunson was treated for ear and skin infections when he arrived in rescue. He continues to need daily care to his nose fold. He is a good boy for this and his adopter should be prepared to continue this regime and monitor for any signs of infection. He had a potential mild vaccine reaction in the shelter so a pre-med of antihistamine may be a good practice with future vaccines. His ideal home is one where his people are around much of the time and enjoy including their dog in daily life. Whether you're heading out for a walk, relaxing on the couch, or simply moving from room to room, Brunson wants to be part of it all. He can be an adventure buddy when it's time to explore, but at the end of the day, what truly matters to him is being with the people he loves. After losing the only life he knew, making a stop at a shelter, finding safety with Pug Nation LA, and traveling thousands of miles to New England, Brunson is finally ready for the happy ending he's been waiting for. What he wants most isn't complicated: patient humans, lots of companionship, a gentle hand, and a place to call home forever. Could Brunson's next stop be your heart?
