Description
Bentley is a 9-year-old, 13.6-pound sweetheart who is looking for the forever home he truly deserves. He was adopted from our rescue two years ago, but through no fault of his own, he recently found his way back to us when his owner could no longer care for him. While we’re heartbroken that Bentley had to experience another big life change, we’re determined to make sure this next home is his last. When Bentley returned, he was unfortunately carrying quite a bit of extra weight. He has already started his weight-loss journey in his foster home with measured portions of prescription diet food, and he’s looking for a family who will stay committed to helping him reach his healthy goal weight of around 9 pounds.Bentley is a gentle, sensitive little soul. He absolutely adores women and quickly becomes the world’s biggest cuddle bug once he trusts you. Men can be a little scary for him, likely because of his difficult past, but he is never aggressive—just shy and unsure. He would do best in a home with women only or with very patient men who will give him the time he needs to feel safe. Because he startles easily, Bentley is looking for a quiet home without children. He gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and happily coexists with both his large and small foster siblings. His other true love? Cats! Bentley absolutely enjoys sharing his home with feline friends. If you are looking for a constant companion, Bentley is your guy. His favorite place in the world is curled up in your lap or being carried around in your arms. He’s the definition of a purse dog and would happily spend every moment by your side. At bedtime, you’ll find him snuggled right next to you, where he sleeps peacefully through the night. Bentley is house-trained, pee pad trained, and crate trained. He currently isn’t comfortable walking on a leash, but his foster family is working with him, and we hope he’ll continue to gain confidence. Because of this, he will require a securely fenced yard.Bentley’s story began in a hoarding situation where he received very little love or attention. After finally finding a home, he has now experienced the heartbreak of losing it again. Through it all, he has remained a sweet, loving little dog who simply wants someone to love with his whole heart. Once Bentley chooses you, he’ll be your loyal best friend for the rest of his days. We can’t wait to see this special little guy finally get the happy ending he’s been waiting for.To apply to adopt Bentley, please visit bcaaofnj.org.
