LEARNING TO FEEL SAFE: Approx. 3 years old / Approx. 12 lbs. Hi, I’m Sailor! I had a home since I was a puppy, but there were some life changes in my home, and my family could no longer keep me. Thankfully Mutts took me in and I’m adjusting. I was adopted for a little over a month, but it wasn’t a good fit, so I’m back with Mostly Mutts and settling into a nice foster home. There will be even more info. about me soon. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I’ve had mixed interactions with dogs. My original family reported that I did well with the dogs I met while with them, however I have not liked the dogs I met while with Mostly Mutts. There are dogs in my current foster home, so we’ll see how I settle in with them—ask how it’s going if you would like to meet me and you have a dog. / My original family reported that I may be too much for a kitty cat. I liked the cat, but I was a lot. / I can be a little nippy when I’m afraid, so Mostly Mutts recommends mature kids 15+ years old that will give me the time I need to settle in. If you have kids like this, let’s meet. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a very shy, sensitive girl who is still learning that the world is a safe place. Because I can be anxious and unsure, I’m also a major flight risk, so I’ll need a patient family that understands the importance of keeping me safe and secure. I’m currently very flinchy—even slow overhead movements or unexpected sounds, like a creaky door, startle me—and if I feel frightened or rushed, I may react defensively by nipping. Please take things slowly, let me come to you in my time please. Once I feel safe and settled, I’ll repay your patience with lots of love, companionship, and loyalty. My original owner also shared that I could be a little possessive of toys, though I haven’t shown that behavior at Mostly Mutts. They also said I have a silly side and enjoy chasing shadows and bugs! / Energy level: Both of my former families reported that I had a higher energy level such as 6-8, though I have not shown that much energy yet while with Mostly Mutts. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: My original family reported that I knew the ‘sit’ and ‘come’ commands. I haven’t really tried working on commands yet while with Mostly Mutts, however they offer free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let’s do some training together. / I did well in my crate at Mostly Mutts and my original family reported that I was crate trained. / When I was returned to Mostly Mutts, I had a lot of accidents likely due to stress. I’m starting to improve but am not completely potty trained. Both of my former families reported that I was working on my potty manners. I believe having someone home a lot of the time that can take me outside regularly will help. I cannot hold it a full workday. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I enjoy playing with toys and spending time with calm, gentle, and patient people who let me build trust at my pace. My dream home is a quiet, peaceful one where I can truly flourish, with a family member who is home much of the time so I can continue to grow in confidence while enjoying lots of companionship. / I don’t like being rushed into new situations or relationships and do best when people give me time to feel safe. Loud, busy environments can be overwhelming, and people wearing hats may make me a little nervous—so please just take it off. With patience and gentle reassurance, I know I’ll continue to gain confidence. And like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. Since I'm a Dachshund, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy. I’ve started on an inexpensive anxiety medication to help me feel calmer. I’m looking for a patient, calm and loving family to call my own that will treasure me! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
