Dale is a sweet Maltipoo who has come such a long way in a very short time, and watching his confidence blossom has been incredibly rewarding. Just two weeks ago, Dale was frightened of nearly everything. Today, he’s discovering that the world isn’t such a scary place after all—and his playful, goofy personality is beginning to shine. He’s a loyal little companion with a heart of gold. Dale is a loving, affectionate boy who adores spending time with his people. The moment you sit down, he’ll happily curl up beside you on the couch for snuggles. He’s also starting to discover the joy of toys and has become very interested in playing with his foster family’s senior dog—even if she isn’t quite as enthusiastic as he is! Because he enjoys the company of other dogs so much, he would likely love a canine companion in his forever home, though it’s not a requirement. One of Dale’s favorite activities is exploring the outdoors. He loves leisurely walks where he can sniff every interesting scent, roll happily in the grass, and occasionally break into an adorable little trot. While sudden loud noises can still startle him, he’s becoming more confident every day and continues to make wonderful progress meeting new people and other dogs. At home, Dale is doing an excellent job with his crate training. He struggled with separation anxiety at first and spent his early nights howling when crated, but those days are largely behind him. Now he willingly goes into his crate at bedtime and during the day, settles quickly if left alone, and sleeps quietly through the night. He may let out a few morning whines once he hears his family awake, but that’s just his sweet way of saying he’s ready to start the day with you. Dale has also made nice progress riding in the car. While it’s not his favorite activity yet, he’s becoming more comfortable with each trip and will likely continue gaining confidence with positive experiences. Because he’s still building his confidence, Dale would do best in a calmer home. He does well with older children but can become overwhelmed when things get loud or chaotic, such as when kids have groups of friends over. A family that understands he’s still learning that the world is a safe place will be rewarded with an incredibly loving, gentle companion who is eager to trust, love, and be loved. Dale’s journey has only just begun, and his future is incredibly bright. With patience, encouragement, and plenty of cuddles, this sweet, goofy little guy is sure to become the devoted best friend you’ve been looking for. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe.
