Description

OTHER PETS: Peaches has been a little unsure around other dogs, but definitely shows some curiosity! She could potentially do well in a home with a well socialized dog to help her come out of her shell a bit. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Peaches is what we affectionately call a `chicken little` dog. She is anxious when meeting new people and in new environments, but over time she will bond very closely with whoever she deems as her `favorites`. She will do best in a predictable home and routine with people that can allow her the time and patience she needs to fully decompress and settle into her new routine. [Some Experience]KIDS: Peaches is hesitant with new people and places, so it's important that the people around her allow her to warm up at her own pace and provide a predictable environment while she learns to settle in. She has also shown some mild signs of resource guarding while at TJO, trading up (offering something of equal or higher value will help dogs learn they don't have to lose good things in our presence). Minors should be actively supervised during interactions to keep everyone safe. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Peaches is in her element when she gets the chance to snuggle in and curl up with her favorite people, often trying to climb into their lap when allowed to approach. Though shy at first, she becomes quite the Velcro dog once she's comfortable with someone. It's possible that as she opens up more in a home environment, she may become more energetic and adventurous, but for now she's happy with casual walks and some quality one-on-one attention. A combination of low-key regular exercise and mental enrichment will help meet her needs. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: Peaches has an old injury on her front right foot that looks like it healed a bit oddly, but otherwise does not cause her any pain and isn't concerning to the vet that assessed her. She should do well with routine vet appointments as she ages. [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Peaches is beginning to learn important skills, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience while she adjusts. Positive reinforcement will help Peaches not only learn her basic cues, but also help her to feel more comfortable and confident in herself! It will provide a good opportunity for her to bond with her new owner as well. [Moderate] GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]
