Description
What kind of monster watches a dog slowly starve, suffer, and waste away? We will never understand that kind of cruelty. This is Gideon. He’s 30lbs. A walking skeleton. Starved by humans… supposed to be man’s best friend. He was found wandering in a yard, he even went up and waited on a random porch. He was seeking out food, shelter, water, help! It is believed he may have been dumped in this very rural area, as it is a common occurrence. When a kind woman heard about him and the condition he was in, she immediately drove to the property to get him. His nails are overgrown and stained with urine. There is scarring across his back and hip bones that the vet believes came from a crate far too small for him. He did not get this way overnight, and the veterinary team does not believe he got this way on his own. They estimate him to be 1 year of age. Gideon is heartworm positive, hookworm positive and anemic. He is at the vet now on supportive care and a carefully managed refeeding schedule, because a dog this depleted cannot simply be fed back to health. It has to happen slowly and under medical supervision. For the first time in a long time, Gideon is safe. What he needs from here is treatment: heartworm protocol, deworming, bloodwork and weeks of monitored weight gain. If you can help with Gideon’s care or would like to contribute to our ongoing medical expenses, any donation truly helps. Thank you always for continuing to support our rescue and the dogs who need it most. With love, Chelsea’s Hope Boxer Rescue
