* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, August 1st from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.    All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $650 Meet Meadow: The Brave Little Blossom Waiting to Bloom   Some dogs burst into a room with wagging tails and endless confidence. Meadow's story is different— and that's exactly what makes her so special.   This beautiful 2-3 year old, 30-pound Australian Cattle Dog came to DPS from a Central Valley shelter feeling overwhelmed by the world. Life has clearly taught Meadow to be cautious, but every single day she shows us just how brave she really is. Watching her gain confidence has been one of the most rewarding foster journeys we've experienced.   Meadow starts her mornings around 6:30-7:00 a.m. with a quick potty break in the yard, followed by a few moments of quiet exploring before happily returning to her cozy bed. She spends much of the day relaxing in her favorite spot, occasionally venturing out to investigate the house before heading back to her safe place. She's a grazer who prefers to snack throughout the day rather than eat on a schedule, is completely housetrained, and happily sleeps through the night on her bed (though she's also crate trained if needed). By around 9 p.m., she's ready to settle in with the rest of the family.   When Meadow first arrived, she was completely shut down. She quietly retreated to the bed in her pen and stayed there while she decompressed. With plenty of patience, gentle encouragement, and a steady supply of cheese, chicken, and treats, she slowly began to trust. First came taking treats from her foster family's hands. Then allowing gentle pets. Then exploring the house. And now? Now she greets them with the sweetest little waggle of her adorable tail nub, cautiously walks over asking for affection, and rewards them with gentle kisses when we stop petting her.   She is incredibly gentle, calm, and affectionate beneath her shy exterior. You can almost see the wheels turning as she gathers the courage to step farther away from her safe space and closer to her people. Every day she pushes herself just a little bit more, and every one of those tiny victories feels enormous. Her determination to trust again is nothing short of inspiring.   Meadow is definitely more of a "bed potato" than a couch potato. She has a wonderfully mellow personality and would much rather lounge peacefully than spend her day running laps around the yard. She enjoys chewing on a bully stick, quietly observing the world, and soaking in the calm around her.   She previously lived peacefully alongside other dogs at the shelter and DPS Safehouse and has participated in playgroups, though she hasn't been introduced to resident dogs in her foster home. She is naturally submissive and has not shown any interest in causing conflict. She's also been around children and is generally very quiet, though she occasionally gives one family member an uncertain bark as they're walking by. With continued positive experiences, she's already making progress.   Leash walking is still a work in progress. Meadow is learning that a leash doesn't have to be scary, and right now she's happiest building confidence at home before venturing out into the bigger world. Her future family should be prepared to continue this journey at her pace.   Meadow would thrive in a patient, quiet home with adopters who understand that trust isn't rushed— it is earned. She doesn't need someone to "fix" her. She simply needs someone willing to celebrate the little milestones that become big breakthroughs. The family who gives Meadow the time she deserves will have the privilege of watching an incredibly sweet soul continue to blossom. A confident resident canine would likely help her settle in and learn the ropes.     Our favorite thing about Meadow is watching her choose courage every single day. Seeing her whole back end wiggle with excitement, then watching her pause as she debates whether to stay in her safe spot or come ask for pets, is unbelievably heartwarming. You can tell how badly she wants to trust—and every day, she gets a little closer.   If you're looking for a calm companion and believe that the deepest bonds are built with patience, kindness, and understanding, Meadow is ready to begin the next chapter of her story. We have a feeling that once her heart fully opens, it will be one of the most loyal hearts you'll ever know.
