General info
Description
Meet Rhubarb, one of the 5 month old female German Shepherd mix pups! Rhubarb arrived to the Shelter with her mom Roxie (also up for adoption) and her four siblings. She previously lived outside full time and didnât have a lot of experience with new environments, animals or people prior to arriving at the Shelter. We consider her under-socialized â often moving away and avoiding new people and environments. Rhubarb will thrive with a patient, dog-savvy adopter that will allow for her to acclimate and transition at her pace to the new home. She seems to gain some confidence being around other dogs and watching them interact with the world so a home with a well rounded resident canine may be a good fit. Adopters should plan to dedicate time and resources to positive reinforcement training to bond with Rhubarb as she acclimates as well as teach her life skills and manners like potty training and leash walking. As Rhubarb is already a large sized puppy and finds the leash fairly spooky â adopters should have easy access to an enclosed yard from their home for ease in the house training process. We do not have any history of Rhubarb with cats or children. Both of Rhubarbâs parents appear to be German Shepherds so she will be a large/extra large sized dog. Rhubarb is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them
