Calvin’s story with Smelly Cat Rescue actually began back in 2022, when he was just about 8 weeks old.   His mama brought him to the back door of a home in Lake Saint Louis, and it quickly became clear that there was something a little different about this tiny guy. Calvin was showing signs of neurological challenges, and we eventually learned he has Cerebellar Hypoplasia, or CH.   CH affects Calvin’s balance and coordination, giving him his signature wobbly walk. It doesn’t cause him pain, and Calvin doesn’t know he’s any different. He’s simply figured out his own way of navigating the world.   Back then, we knew him as Rudy. He was adopted, grew up, and spent the next few years with the family he loved. Unfortunately, his family recently fell on hard times and had to move into temporary housing that doesn’t allow cats. Through no fault of his own, Calvin found himself back with Smelly Cat Rescue and looking for a new chapter.   And Calvin? He’s handling it like a champ.   He’s settled right back in, making himself at home and charming the people around him. His wobbles are part of what makes him Calvin, and once you see him confidently making his way toward whatever has caught his attention, it’s pretty impossible not to smile.   Like many special-needs kitties, Calvin does come with a few quirks. His bathroom aim, for example, is about as precise as his walking.  He uses his litter box, but about half the time when he poops, he gets  almost  there and leaves it right outside the box. Apparently, Calvin believes proximity counts. It’s manageable, but his future family should be prepared for a little extra cleanup and understand that accommodations are simply part of loving this wobbly guy.   Calvin will need a family who understands that a CH kitty may do things a little differently and is willing to make his world safe and accessible. In return, you get a cat who has already shown just how adaptable, resilient, and wonderfully himself he can be.   Calvin isn’t looking for someone who expects perfect. Perfect balance, perfect coordination, perfect litter box aim…yeah, that’s probably not happening.    He’s looking for someone who will love him exactly as he is.   He had a family once. Now this sweet, wobbly boy is ready to find the one that will be his forever.    If you want, I can also make this a little more emotional/adoption-pull heavy at the end. I think Calvin’s “he already lost one home” story could really tug at people without making it feel guilt-trippy.
