Ella

Description

Ella came to us for a less-than-ideal situation (along with her sister Roxie). They lived in a home with many other cats (unsterilized). Although it sounds like all of the cats were "loved", they were not well cared for at least by our standards, as most/all have never been provided any vetting. These two cats have since been vetted (spay, vaccinations, parasite treatments, and treatments for skin and respiratory concerns).  Both cats' medical concerns have been addressed and are resolving well, we are now working on social/emotional health. Both girls seem affectionate but not completely sure how to accept love. Ella seems a little more nervous than Roxie at this point, as we have found her hiding "under" her bed. Time is starting to help, the more time we spend in her room she will stay out for longer, she will meow for pets, she is even starting to lean into them as if to say more please. She does purr and will get comfortable in her bed occasionally even exposing her belly. We do believe as she heals physically (her skin was very irritated from fleas) she will continue to enjoy touch on her body more. These girls have been through so much and like just like people animals heal their souls in different ways and at their own pace. It is our job to figure out how we can assist in that process, but not to force it. Ella lets us know from day to day what she is ready for and it is rewarding to be part of this journey.  Her adjustment may require a little extra time and patience, but this beauty is certainly going to be worth it! As always, don't forget to consider the cats they may not be the first to approach you in the shelter as some of the sweetest, most special, most deserving new friends might not have the courage to find you so please look for them! **As a side note, if you find yourself in a situation as this man did - reach out for help BEFORE your home becomes a breeding ground of cats you are feeding but unable to provide care for. We have a spay/neuter program and will work to assist you. OR if you can, offer to help a neighbor fix their cat, if you have colony cats in your area work within your community to fix even one, if you have the means donate to programs like ours. Again, fixing even one cat will save possibly hundreds (or thousands) of helpless kittens/cats from a life of homelessness and suffering.  Complete our online adoption application a www.littleorphans.org to start the process of adding this or any of our kitties to your home. The more complete your application is, determines how quickly we are able to process your application. Please try to give your vets office (give prior authorization to release information to us), landlord, and references a heads up to expect our call.  Adoption fees include spay/neuter, up-to-date age-appropriate vaccines, deworming, flea preventative, and a microchip.
