Description
Birthdate: 02/14/2022Breed: One of a kindPERSEPHONE teaches me something new every day. Those who know more about Greek mythology than I do, tell us that the myth of Persephone is really about personal growth through hardship and embracing both the light and the dark cycles of life. Let me tell you about our girl Persephone who has endured much hardship and continues to emerge from the trauma of a very dark day.Hit by a car, her jaw badly broken, one of our veterinary partners tended to Persephone and asked if we could take her and see her through her recovery. When she first came into our care she was frightened, disoriented and confused. We can't even imagine what she was experiencing and if you think that time and love doesn't have a huge impact on the healing process - think again. We sent her home with one of our wonderful fosters so her recovery could continue in a quieter, calmer space. Love and patience began to pay off big-time, but it was clear that she was experiencing some neurological symptoms, secondary to the trauma. She's had great care from specialists and with time we watched as some of the disorientation began to diminish. Not only does she now know where she is, she knows where you are and she'll find you - to crawl into your lap or lay her head on your legs. She seeks your touch and is sweetly responsive and has begun to purr again (a sound that hadn't been heard in a while!). How far her recovery will take her is yet unknown, but we are cheering (a bit teary-eyed) to spend time with this gentle soul who only wants your love. Persephone is a study of hope, resiliency and the driving force of love. Come and meet our goddess. The Rescue is open 7 days a week for you to come and meet our pets! Walk-ins are welcome! In order to interact with them, you’ll need a simple questionnaire filled out. You can fill this out at the Rescue or before you come in at: https://www.pawscrossedny.org/cat-adoption-questionnaire. If you have any questions, please email us at adoptions@pawscrossedny.org for more information. Please understand that we cannot hold pets for any reason. All adoptions are done on a first come, first adopt basis for pre-approved applicants.
