Meet Roxy, the white pittie mix puppy. Roxy arrived to the Shelter after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. She was described by her previous guardian as playful. Typical to a puppy her age, Roxy is still working on potty training. Adopters should plan to have time, patience and some yummy treats and/or fun toys to engage in rewards based training to bond and teach Roxy life skills and manners. Shelter staff have observed that Roxy may have some auditory impairment. She does not seem to be as responsive to sounds compared to the average puppy her age. Adopters should do some research on caring for a dog with that sort of impairment prior to adoption to ensure they have the information and tools to succeed. Roxy may do well in a home with other animals. If there are dogs in the home, they should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Any other species of animals should be introduced in a slow, thoughtful manner in the home. Roxy is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day.
