Description

  * This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 25th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.   All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $500   Meet Marzipan: Sweet, Spunky, and Full of Love When Marzipan's beloved owner passed away, this little 13-pound Chi mix lost the person she adored most. It’s clear she was deeply loved, and everyone involved in her journey has made her a promise: to find her the wonderful home she deserves next.   At 9 years old, Marzipan proves that age is just a number. She's active, and always ready for an adventure. Whether it's a long neighborhood walk, an enthusiastic game of fetch, or a cozy evening curled up next to her favorite human, Marzipan is happiest when she's sharing life with her people.   Daily Life with Marzipan   Marzipan starts her mornings around 5:30 AM, when her foster wakes up, with a walk followed immediately by breakfast. She loves to eat and has both kibble and wet foo. She enjoys several walks throughout the day and still has plenty of stamina for longer outings. She previously must have been a ballerina as the hint of a walk results in leaps into the air and more pirouettes than a prima ballerina. Between adventures, Marzipan is the perfect office companion. She happily lounges nearby (or in your lap when you're on calls) while her foster works, patiently waiting for attention rather than demanding it.   She loves to sit outside and catch rays and will make the cutest little sound when she wants you to open the door to let her in and she is always up for a spirited game of fetch. Before bed, she heads out for one final potty break and then settles into the bed with her foster for the night. She sleeps quietly through the night.   A Loyal Little Shadow   When Marzipan first arrived, she was quiet, submissive, and a bit unsure of herself. As she settled in, her true personality began to shine. She became more interactive, more playful, and much more confident.   She forms strong bonds with her people and loves being involved in whatever they're doing. For the first few days she followed her foster from room to room, but as her confidence grew, she became comfortable relaxing independently when she felt secure.   Marzipan is incredibly affectionate. If there's an open lap, a couch cushion, or even a small corner of a chair available, she'll happily claim it and snuggle up beside you. Her favorite place is simply wherever her people happen to be. She loves pets and being held like a baby   Fetch Enthusiast Extraordinaire   Don't let the gray around her muzzle fool you— Marzipan still knows how to have fun.   Her energy is often highest in the mornings, and that's when her love of fetch really shines. She'll proudly bring her ball over, drop it at your feet, and stare expectantly until you participate. If you hesitate, she'll gently nudge the ball toward you with her nose or paw as a helpful reminder.   In Marzipan's opinion, there is no such thing as too much fetch.     Smart Cookie Seeking Cheese   Marzipan is highly food motivated. She is very smart and learns quickly.   She's already mastered "sit" and is eagerly working on additional commands. Training sessions are one of her favorite activities because they combine learning, attention, and snacks.   Walking Companion with Opinions   Marzipan is a pleasant walking buddy most of the time. She enjoys getting out and exploring the neighborhood and walks nicely on leash when the environment is calm.   Her biggest challenge is that she can be reactive toward other dogs while on leash. If she spots one, she may bark and pull. Her foster learned that giving other dogs plenty of space helps her stay comfortable and successful. If she is picked up she will settle down.   Although she is leash reactive, she can coexist with other dogs when off leash. She's not particularly interested in playing with them though. She would likely prefer to be the only dog in the home, but could be an option to hang out with other dogs who give her space when she needs it.   Home Sweet Home   Marzipan is fully house-trained and crate-trained. She has had no accidents in foster care.   She has lived with a cat and is more curious than aggressive, though her enthusiasm can be a bit overwhelming for feline friends who prefer personal space. A dog-savvy or confident cat may do well with her.   Marzipan takes daily medication to keep her liver healthy. The medication is inexpensive and can be purchased for $40 a month or less, depending on the source.   Marzipan's Perfect Match   Marzipan is looking for a home that appreciates the best of both worlds: a dog who can join you on walks and adventures, then happily curl up beside you for a nap afterward.   She thrives on companionship, affection, and being included in daily life. Most of all, Marzipan is searching for someone to love as wholeheartedly as she loves them.
