Description
Foster or forever home wanted, meet Koopa. Koopa came into the Riverside shelter on July 15 quite unwell. Given the state he was in and the shelter's inability to perform diagnostics, this poor baby was fast tracked to the euthanasia list and was set to lose his life on Sunday. We absolutely did not want that to be the end of his story when his life is just beginning. So we arranged to have Koopa picked up Saturday and transported to one of our veterinary hospitals to begin diagnosing and treating what could be ailing him. When Koopa arrived at the shelter he was found to have fluid in his abdomen that needed to be drained but they were not able to diagnose the underlying cause. We are still pending results from the testing that started being performed as soon as he arrived Saturday. While Koopa is likely to be hospitalized through diagnosis and stabilization, we are actively seeking a foster or forever home for him as soon as we have answers and he's ready to be discharged. Given his medical state and being new to the rescue, we don't know a lot about Koopa's temperament other than the notes from the shelter during intake. Stated on the intake notes, Koopa seemed very friendly, allowed pets and responded with signs of being social, wagging tail and offered paw several times. He was alert and responsive but was not motivated to get up. Once we receive test results and learn more about Koopa, we will update his bio.
