Description
Meet James - a devoted, gentle soul who's ready to find his forever family! James is housebroken and leash trained, and he would do well as a leash-walk-only dog or with a 4.5 foot fenced yard. His house manners are lovely: he's well mannered and responds when called, and while he doesn't always adhere to basic commands immediately (and sometimes not at all), he does know how to lay down, sit, and respond to "no." He has a great balance of energy, enjoying quiet time indoors and active play outdoors, where he runs and occasionally plays with the resident dogs and outdoor toys. When meeting new people, James is friendly after a little time to warm up. He shows no aggression toward visitors, preferring to greet them with his people outside when they arrive. He barks when he's outside, but he's quite quiet once he's back in the house. As for where he'd rather be, James has no strong preference - he just wants to be wherever his person is, though the weather plays a role too: he seeks out the AC when it's hot, and enjoys the outdoors when it's cool. James has some real favorites in life. He enjoys being brushed for short stretches, loves riding in the truck, and adores attention. On the food side, he's not a peanut butter fan, but he loves cheese, bread, the occasional hot dog, and eggs (cooked or raw). What makes James truly special is hard to put into words - "sweet" doesn't quite cover it. Looking into his eyes, you can see sadness, love, hope, adventure, and an eagerness to please, all at once. He's adapted beautifully to his new environment and has a wonderful go-with-the-flow attitude. He's an absolute attention hound and one of the most patient dogs you could ever meet - he waits calmly while his food is prepared, never intrudes, and just patiently waits his turn. But when treat time comes, don't keep him waiting too long, or he'll give you a gentle "boop" with his nose as if to say, "Hey, I'm right here!" He'll also boop for attention whenever he feels he's not getting quite enough. It's absolutely adorable. James would thrive as an only fur-baby or alongside a female canine companion, ideally in a home with adults and teens. He doesn't require a perfectly quiet household, though he has flourished in a calm, low-key foster home. Above all, James is loyal and faithful beyond compare, and his patience and deep desire to please will make him an extraordinary addition to any family lucky enough to call him theirs. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes.
