General info
Description
Meet Vera, the chocolate Austrailian Kelpie mix pup. This gorgeous gal came to the Shelter after her previous short term guardian was unable to care for her long term. Vera is energetic and spunky. She would thrive in an active adoptive home that will meet her above average day to day needs mentally and physically. Vera has been observed to be mouthy since her entry to the Shelter. This means that while playing, she will sometimes put her teeth on people. Although this is a fairly normal behavior for puppies, Veraâs mouthing is a bit more than the average. Staff have been having lots of toys and chew items available to give Vera when she gets an inkling of putting something inappropriate in her mouth. Adopters should plan on management in their house by puppy proofing their environment as well as giving Vera lots of safe options to chew on. Vera met a small breed adult dog and was a little nervous. It seems that she does not have a lot of experience with dogs. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption and adopters should plan on a slow, thoughtful introduction once in the home. Sturdy children who are not deterred by Veraâs mouthing behavior may be a fit. Vera is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them
