Chief presents as a calm and quiet dog in his kennel. He was easy to leash and exited the kennel without issue, walking calmly to the yard with a loose, relaxed body posture. While passing other dogs on the way outside, he showed no signs of leash reactivity or overarousal.In the yard, Chief was friendly and affiliative with his handlers, frequently checking in for attention and readily engaging for treats. He is highly food motivated and demonstrated basic obedience skills by sitting and lying down on cue for rewards. Even with dogs passing the yard, Chief remained focused on his handlers and showed minimal interest in the surrounding distractions.During a dog-to-dog assessment, Chief displayed appropriate social behavior. When introduced to a helper dog, he briefly stiffened as the dog approached to investigate but accepted polite greetings. After sniffing, Chief chose to disengage by turning his head and walking away. Throughout the interaction, the helper dog repeatedly approached and entered Chief's space, but Chief remained calm, responded with appropriate sniffing, and consistently chose to walk away rather than escalate the interaction. He did not solicit play during this assessment but coexisted comfortably and appropriately alongside the other dog.Chief returned to his kennel without issue and remained relaxed while staff reached over him to remove the leash.Overall, Chief is a calm, polite, and highly adoptable young German Shepherd. His excellent leash manners, strong food motivation, affiliative nature with people, and appropriate dog social skills make him an excellent candidate for rescue placement or adoptions.
