Description
He did everything right... and it still almost wasn't enough. Mako has been breaking our hearts ever since we learned his story. Just a couple of weeks ago, this sweet 7-year-old boy sat quietly in a shelter in Georgia. Day after day he watched people walk past his kennel. Month after month, no one chose him. It wasn't because he wasn't a good dog. It wasn't because he wasn't friendly. It wasn't because he wasn't deserving. It was because he was an older dog struggling with severe skin and eye allergies in an overcrowded shelter with limited resources. As his allergies worsened, so did his chances. His skin was raw, his eyes were inflamed, and without the funding to provide the treatment he desperately needed, Mako was scheduled to be euthanized. Not because he had done anything wrong. Simply because there wasn't enough space and not enough resources to help him. Then something incredible happened... A family came to meet him. They said they wanted him. They told the shelter they just needed to go home and "set up the house" before coming back for him. Mako waited. They never came back. The shelter was ghosted, and once again, Mako was alone. With time running out, our southern partners reached out. And we said... "Start treating him. We'll take him." Today, Mako is safe in New Freedom, Pennsylvania after being loved and spoiled by his amazing Georgia foster, sleeping in a loving foster home instead of on a concrete shelter floor. His treatment is working beautifully. His skin is healing. His eyes are improving. His tail is wagging again. At around 60 pounds, he's the perfect size for adventures and relaxing at your side. He's fully house-trained, crate-trained, and rides wonderfully in the car, making him an easy companion whether you're running errands or heading out on a road trip. He's great with other dogs, but what he loves most is being with his people. This sweet "Velcro dog" will happily follow you from room to room, always ready for a cuddle, a walk, or simply keeping you company. If you're looking for a devoted friend who just wants to be part of your everyday life, he's your guy. LIC #7639 We are PA Caring for K-9's, an all-breed dog rescue that is solely run by volunteers. Most of our dogs are rescued from high kill shelters in the South. If the dog is posted, they are still available! Once arriving, these dogs enter foster homes, as we do not have a shelter. We cannot adopt out dogs to a home with dogs that are not fixed or up to date on shots. If interested in adopting, please submit an application online at www.pack9rescue.org. Our adoption fee for altered dogs is $350 and goes directly to saving the lives of more dogs. Our adoption fee for unaltered puppies will be $400 which includes a refundable $50 deposit upon receipt of spay/neuter certificate.
