Description

Meet Nash, a gentle sweetheart who was picked up as a stray in Tennessee and has been winning hearts ever since! He's housebroken, leash trained, and crate trained, and he already knows “sit,” “down,” and “stay.” Nash has a medium activity level and enjoys spending time both inside and outside. He's not an escape artist, but a 5' fence would be ideal to give him room to stretch his legs in a yard of his own. Nash gets along well with other dogs, doing great with the adult male Pyrs in his foster home. He can be a bit tentative meeting new people at home but warms up quickly, and out in public he's never met a stranger! He'd likely do best with children who are comfortable with large dogs. Cat-wise, Nash can play a little rough, so he'd need a dog-savvy feline companion. He's also taken neighborhood chickens in stride without a reaction, and has been calm and easygoing around a pony and donkey while on leash. Nash barks less than the average Pyr, usually only speaking up when he's impatient for food or attention. He loves his chew toys, especially stealing them from his foster brothers, and he really enjoys being brushed. So far he's taken every new experience in stride, simply investigating at his own pace. His favorite treats are yogurt and peanut butter, which come in handy for his beloved bedtime ritual of belly rubs, shakes, kisses, and of course, a cookie or two. What makes Nash so special is his gentle nature. He gets excited and loves to jump around, but he holds himself back from jumping up on people. Everyone at the vet's office describes him as a "joy," and it's easy to see why. His ideal home could be almost anything: he'd love having another dog as a pal, but he'd also be perfectly happy as an only dog with a family who can give him plenty of attention, like someone who works from home or is retired. Nash is truly a sweetheart who loves people and dogs alike, and his infectious curiosity is sure to bring so much joy to his forever family! National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes.
