Description

This boy arrived at our shelter with a fairly profound anemia and secondary heart murmur, as well as evidence of inflammation based on his white blood cells. His most recent bloodwork shows that this has resolved, although he still has one mildly elevated white blood cell (lymphocytes); this could be a stress response, but could also indicate underlying systemic inflammation (such as with his gastrointestinal tract). I recommend his new adopters have his bloodwork repeated (CBC/chem) within 4-6 months of adoption to ensure this isn't worsening, and/or other changes have not occured. New adopters should watch for vomiting, diarrhea or abnormal stools, lethargy, or other abnormal signs, and have him taken to see his veterinarian should these occur. He otherwise has been a fairly nice cat in shelter. He solicits attention and pets, but reaches his tolerance threshold quite quickly/suddenly; when overstimulated, he will bite. He therefore should only be adopted to cat-experienced owners with no small children, and ideally a home with no elderly or immunocompromised people in the household. The longer he is neutered, the more calm he should become. We neutered him in mid June and it can take time to see the true positive affects of the surgery.
