FROYO NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:    Froyo        Best Guess for Breed:    Chihuahua mix    Best Guess for Age:    5 years as of June 2026      SEX:    Male   Approximate Weight:    12.4 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs!  We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:    South Carolina shelter - Froyo needs a foster or adopter to make his way to the DC area   Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Froyo would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.   Froyo is Looking For:    Meet this very sweet little gentleman! At 5 years old, this black-and-tan Chihuahua has left Puerto Rico behind in search of a loving family to call his own. With his affectionate personality, he's ready to trade shelter life for cozy blankets, sunny windows, and plenty of time with his favorite people. Heartworm Information: Froyo is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now!
