Description

FREDERICK NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Frederick        Best Guess for Breed:  Australian shepherd and lab mix   Best Guess for Age:   2 years as of July 2026      SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:    25 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations:  Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think this pup would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure they can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.Frederick is Looking For:  His forever home! Frederick is a sato - a dog from Puerto Rico. He is in his prime as a young dog and hasn't seen enough of the world - he's eager to get his own humans for sniffy walks and romps in parks and all the adventures his family can dream up. Making pup pals along the way would be great, as would going to dog school so he can show how super smart he is.Most of all, though, he wants to know where he belongs, to be safe and loved all his days. In exchange he promises so much love and loyalty. What do you say? Can you see him by your side? What My Foster Says About Me:   Frederick is such a sweet boy; so beautiful and soft. He made himself at home right away and found his "spot" on my couch on the side porch. He loves to snuggle up to you for belly rubs. He is so smart and has already learned sit...sort of.  While he is very gentle and loves my dog and people, he is still a playful youngster which makes having him around fun.  For example, he keeps "borrowing" my shoes (so far no chewing!) and lines up all his toys next to him.        He can be coaxed into his crate (food helps) and sleeps through the night. No accidents in the house so far. I can leave for a couple of hours and he is calm.        Given his start in life he will need training (especially since his instinct is to run),  but he is very smart and should learn fast. Ensure all openings in any fences are blocked as he doesn't understand the concept of a fence and why it is there.  He isn't very motivated by treats but LOVES praise. Frederick will make someone a wonderful companion.         Heartworm information: Frederick is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
