BIO UPDATE: WE HAVE THE BEST NEWS!! *cue happy tears* CHELSEA HAS BEEN CLEARED FOR ADOPTION! Her recheck/post-op echo this past week showed PERFECT healing of her PDA device, as well as even LOWER pressure through her pulmonary valve!! The right side of her heart has also reshaped (in a good way!)!! Her cardio team was very pleased. In case you missed her story so far, Chelsea is as sweet as they come! She has been with her foster family since January due to several congenital heart defects. 1. She has Pulmonic Stenosis; the cardio team at UW-Madison Vet Care did a balloon valvuloplasty through a vein in her neck. Her diagnosis of PS went from severe to mild with this procedure! This is not considered a cure, but they do expect her to live a normal, healthy life. There is chance of right-sided heart failure and/or congestive heart failure, but it is more likely she will live a normal lifespan! 2. She also had Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA); this was fixed with the procedure and is considered cured. Chelsea will need to be on medication for her entire life, but it is very reasonably priced (~$8/month). At her appointment this week, her cardiologist was so pleased with how her heart is healing that she recommended an echo in a year and possible stoppage of medication at that point! Chelsea ideally will need to see a cardiologist every few years to verify that her heart is still healthy. If you’re still interested in her, please keep reading, as there is so much to love! Chelsea’s positives: Snuggle queen cute as a button, and will probably top out at ~30lbs Sleeps well at night (kenneled, or in bed with human) LOVES children Is super gentle with the cats in her foster home Obsessed with dogs of all sizes Would love to frequent a dog park or have a dog buddy Super smart, learns tricks easily Very food motivated (slow feeder needed for meals) Takes medicine without issue (in bread, cheese, etc) Chelsea’s areas of slight concern: Is working on leash skills (since her surgery, she had to be on a leash to potty) Working hard on potty training & almost has it down! Whines in kennel, but is getting better, just loves to be with her people! Jumps when excited, does well with ignoring and redirection Needs to see cardiologist throughout lifetime Twice daily medication for life
