General info
Description
Butterscotch is an outgoing girl who unfortunately had to spend her first ten days at TJO under quarantine, now that she has kick Parvo's butt she is excited to meet new people and play with new toys. Butterscotch will need a human who has experience with resource guarding.OTHER PETS: Butterscotch is intrigued by other dogs but is also uncomfortable around them, she disengages and walks away on her own - she would do best as an only dog. [Should Be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Butterscotch's best fit would be with someone who has experience with dogs that engage in resource guarding. [Some Experience] KIDS: Butterscotch engages in resource guarding of both food and possessions; leave her food / food bowl alone during mealtime and remember to trade for toys instead of abruptly trying to remove them. Butterscotch is also uncomfortable with tail tugs, exhibits counter surfing tendencies, and can be jumpy when she is excited. We want Butterscotch to be set up for success so her human family members should be old enough to understand how to interact with her safely around food and possessions, and able to do so without adult reminders or supervision. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Buttescotch is very playful with both humans and toys and does settle after playtime. She would do best with a combination of walks, training, enrichment toys and activities; try different things, find what you like to do with Butterscotch, and remember to thank your new personal trainer for the motivation. [Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Butterscotch bond with her new owner, build confidence, and learn her behavorial expectations. Further training would allow for Butterscotch to participate in dog sports (agility / dock diving / flyball / weight pulls / etc,) accompany her humans safely on adventures, or become a trick dog.
