Description

Please read this entire description before applying.Chester is an 11monthold 30-35lb Whoodle (Wheaten Terrier/Poodle mix) who came into rescue with his brother, Corkie. Corkie has since been adopted. Both boys had very limited early social experience and were surrendered by their breeder. Chester has become relaxed and comfortable in his foster home, it took time for him to adjust. He is still fearful when meeting new people and needs slow, gentle introductions.Chester learns best by watching another dog and following their lead. He will need a friendly, gentle resident dog to help him feel secure and continue building confidence. A home with no children or older teens, low activity, and a quiet environment is ideal for him. He is a sweet, observant dog who is making steady progress. Chester is ready for an adopter who understands shy dogs and can offer consistency, patience, and a peaceful home where he can settle in at his own pace. Chester is currently rejecting leash training and is not yet ready for walks. A secure, fully fenced yard is required. He is a flight risk when scared, so doors, gates, and transitions must be handled carefully. He cannot be crated due to his history of being kept in a crate at the breeder, which contributes to his anxiety. When unattended, he should be kept in a safe room with a pet gate instead. Potential adopters should live within a 1.5-hour drive of Northwest Indiana.Chester is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines.ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS• Fully fenced backyard (no invisible fences).• Primary caregiver home more often.• Children 13+.• Calm, patient household.• Preferred:  a friendly resident dog to help with confidence building and continued progress.• No crates — use a petgated room when he is unattended.• Experience with shy or unsocialized dogs is a plus. Please put in an application on our website.
