Description

7-day foster-to-adopt!  Adoption fee waived. (We are looking for a 7-day foster-to-adopt applicant. In other words, we are looking for applicants who want to adopt Uma Tee without the commitment in the beginning.  On or before 7 days, we will require a commitment one way or another.  If, during the 7 day foster period, it is not working out… Uma Tee can come back to us, no strings attached. Video link: https://youtu.be/_hYcNiBsuOk  (watch entire video if interested) FOR ADOPTION! Note: Only those with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. (For more pics, visit nr2r.petfinder.com or www.RoadtoRescueLA.org ) INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK: http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Uma Tee (female) Intake date:  6/5/2026 Chihuahua 2 years old 7.14 pounds Adoption fee:  $waived Good with other dogs: yes  Cats: likely yes Vetting: altered (spayed - while she was under having a c-section), UTD on shots, heartworm negative, fecal negative, on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention, microchipped Health issues: none found Temperament:   Very scared, timid, unsure, insecure, hesitate (but once she trusts you, she bonds quickly - watch video!) Energy level:  low;  she’s very chill.  Groom needs:  low maintenance Biography:   Uma Tee was one of eight Chihuahuas taken in by Ouachita Parish Animal Control due to an eviction.  We took in four and the other four went to another rescue.  Uma Tee and Tilly Sue were both pregnant.  Uma Tee delivered early... only 5 days after intake.  Sadly, two passed away at birth.  The other two were delivered via c-section.  The male passed away two days later.  The female, Tutee, is being fostered by Ninna.  Uma Tee would not allow the puppies to nurse... laying instead on her belly so they could not get to her.  We think she just didn't know how to be a mother.  In the beginning, she did keep Tutee clean but then she wanted to be out of the pen more than in the pen... so Ninna took over completely and Uma Tee went back to the rescue.  Since Tutee was premature, she struggled in the beginning but she's over that hump now and doing well and still with Ninna. Uma Tee is being placed as a foster-to-adopt because while she is incredibly sweet, she is very cautious of strangers.  She bonds very quickly to whoever is really giving her attention so we know, in the right home, she will do the same.   Sudden movements, loud noises and strangers who approach her scare her so a calm and quiet home would be ideal for her.   She's very quiet so a long leash in the beginning might be ideal so that you can get her out from underneath a couch or bed if she decides to hide in the beginning.  A calm, nurturing voice is what she needs. What we are looking for in an adopter: 1. Combination of nurturing/committed-type person; someone that will continue to work on building her trust and be preferablyo enriching her future; 2. Absolutely no children at all;  children wouldn't understand a dog like Uma Tee (she needs an adult-only home - preferrably a single female);  3. Someone with the time and patience to work with her; 4. Other dogs OK but not a house full, as she needs to have one-on-one attention.  Having said that, she does feel very comfortable and would do very well in a home with other dogs. If during the 7 days you decide you are not the right home for Uma Tee, you may bring her back… but you need to go into this with the mindset of giving her a permanent home.  Don’t think you are Ceasar Milan and will change her.   She’s not going to change.  She will grow to love you, but others... she would continue to be afraid.  You need to be willing to accept her as she is and work with and around her temperament.   If during or at the end of the 7 days you decide you want to give her a permanent home, the adoption fee is waived and she will be yours.  We have had several foster-to-adopt success stories with dogs that have similar issues and we find that there are people out there who truly are up for the challenge.  Many of them have told us it was the best decision they’ve ever made.  Challenging dogs can bring about the biggest rewards you will ever know in your lifetime.  It just takes the right person. **IMPORTANT NOTES** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved. We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule. *All of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever! We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family! We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing. There is no exception to this rule! *HOUSETRAINING: We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained. While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night. Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home. Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency. *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome. Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate. *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty. That’s our guarantee. Other notes: This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La. We are 501c3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to rescue small-breed dogs and a handful of cats and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes. DOG APPLICATION LINK: http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal. We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application. The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered. We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply. Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption until you’ve met the pet (unless you already have and know you want to adopt the pet).
