Description

Luke is a male cat who presented bright, alert, and responsive (BAR) with a severely diseased right eye. Examination revealed marked swelling, a large corneal scar, and changes consistent with a probable chronic feline herpesvirus infection that has led to secondary glaucoma. The affected eye is painful and has poor visual potential, making enucleation (surgical removal of the eye) the most likely recommendation to provide long-term comfort. Luke has also been diagnosed with ringworm, a contagious fungal skin infection that requires treatment and appropriate isolation precautions.Luke's medical needs require specialized surgical evaluation, ongoing medical treatment, and recovery care that exceed what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment. Despite his medical challenges, Luke remains resilient while receiving supportive care.Luke needs a safe, compassionate placement where he can receive surgical evaluation, treatment for his eye and ringworm, and appropriate postoperative and recovery care to maximize his comfort and quality of life. This pet is at risk for euthanasia due to the level of medical care required, which exceeds what we can provide in the shelter.
