Meet Iris!Iris is a 2-year-old tabby who may be small in size, but she has a big personality. She loves affection, enjoys being around people, and is always happy to soak up pets and attention.While in our free-roam room, Iris showed us just how far she has come. She loved getting pets, playing with toys, and spending time around people. Like many cats, however, she can become overstimulated at times. Iris grew up as an only kitten and never had the chance to learn some of the social skills that cats typically pick up from feline companions. As a result, she is still learning that when she feels overwhelmed, she can simply walk away instead of expressing her feelings quite so dramatically. The good news is that she gets better and better every day.Although Iris has never officially lived with another cat, she has done well greeting nearby cats and spent time in our free-roam room with another female cat without any issues. For homes with resident cats, we recommend a two-week shutdown period and slow introductions to help everyone adjust successfully.Due to her occasional sassiness and tendency to become overstimulated, Iris would do best with children 12 and older who can respect her boundaries. She is looking for a home without dogs, as she has no prior experience living with them.Iris is searching for a patient, understanding adopter who appreciates a confident cat with a strong sense of self.
