Meet Grandpappy, a 10-year-old Chihuahua mix weighing 10 pounds. Don’t let his age fool you—this little guy is playful, energetic, and full of personality. Foster Dad describes him as "sweet as can be," a loving dog who only asks for a family to love in return. Grandpappy is friendly but a bit reserved when meeting new people. Once he gets to know you, his affectionate side shines through with sweet kisses, belly rub requests, and a happy greeting waiting for you at the door when you come home. He is crate and house trained when kept on a regular schedule and enjoys brief walks—as long as you let him set the pace. He also loves car rides and would be thrilled to tag along on your adventures. While not required, a securely fenced yard would be a dream come true for Grandpappy. He enjoys running around, playing outside, and soaking up the fresh air. He does well with other dogs his size but would also be perfectly content as your one and only. He can do well with older children once he has had time to get to know them. Grandpappy is looking for a family committed to helping him reach a healthier weight. Because food is one of his favorite things, he'll need to be fed separately from other dogs, as he won't pass up the chance to sneak a bite from someone else's bowl. He also has a 4/6 heart murmur, but that doesn't stop him from enjoying life to the fullest. If you're looking for a devoted companion with a gentle heart, a playful spirit, and plenty of love to give, Grandpappy is ready to spend his golden years by your side. His minimum adoption fee is $200 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
