Description

Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure Colby finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails).   Colby | 5–6-year-old Chihuahua Mix | Smart, Active, and Deeply Loyal Colby is a bright, affectionate little guy with a big personality packed into his 9–10 pound frame. This tan and black cutie is incredibly intelligent, highly food-motivated, and loves learning—he already knows commands like come, sit, stay, no, and down, and truly enjoys training sessions. He’s the kind of dog who bonds deeply with his person and will happily follow you around, keeping a watchful and loving eye on his favorite human. Colby has a higher energy level than many small dogs and thrives with regular activity. He loves his daily walks (currently totaling about three miles a day), enjoys time outdoors, and is always up for a car ride or a short play session with his favorite toys. When it’s time to relax, he’s equally happy to snuggle up, burrow under the covers, or rest his head on you for some quiet affection. He is house trained with very few accidents and does great when left home alone for several hours, behaving like a perfect gentleman. On leash, he’s a joy to walk, and he generally does well with other dogs, showing friendly and curious behavior. However, he can be a bit vocal when dogs are across the street and may guard his food around other dogs, so continued guidance in those areas will be helpful. Colby would do best in a calm, adult-only home. Young children make him nervous, and he may react defensively when uncomfortable, so a household without kids is essential. He can also be protective of his home environment and may need support and patience when adjusting to new people entering his space. With structure, consistency, and kind, confident guidance, he continues to make great progress. Colby’s ideal home is with someone who not only loves dogs but understands them—someone who will appreciate his intelligence, continue his training, and provide the routine and reassurance he needs to feel secure. In return, Colby will be an incredibly loyal, loving companion who brings both fun and deep connection to his forever home.   If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!  A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.  The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.  Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking  here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls.
