Description

Adoption fee: $800 Okra: Small Dog, Big Personality, Professional Husband Supervisor   If you've ever wondered what would happen if a bunny, a shadow, and a fluffy little dog were combined into one adorable package, meet Okra!   Okra is a 1–2 year old, 14-pound Westie mix with a soft, non-shedding coat and a heart that's grown tremendously since leaving the shelter and joining DPS. When he first arrived in foster care, he was nervous and unsure of the world around him. He kept to himself and needed time to learn that people could be kind. These days, Okra understands that he's loved, and while he can still be a bit shy around new people, he warms up quickly.   Once you're in his circle of trust, you'll discover an affectionate, funny, and incredibly loyal little companion. Okra is the definition of a velcro dog. He loves being near his people and has formed a particularly special bond with his foster dad. In fact, the two have developed what can only be described as a full-fledged bromance. Foster Dad always claimed he was a "big dog person," but somehow this scruffy little guy managed to completely steal his heart.   Okra starts his day around 7 a.m. with breakfast— served exactly the way he likes it, with a mix of wet and dry food. He enjoys a second meal around 6 p.m. and spends his days alternating between adventures and relaxation. He's a big fan of two long walks every day and loves accompanying his foster family on errands around town. Afterward, he's perfectly content to curl up in one of his many dog beds, lounge on the couch, or settle into a lap for some quality cuddle time.   Playtime is where Okra's goofy side really shines. His favorite toy is a squeaky ball, and when he chases it, he hops through the yard like a little bunny rabbit. He'll proudly retrieve the ball... most of the way. Then he'll drop it just out of reach and turn the game into a playful negotiation. Watching him bounce around with his paws and toy is guaranteed to make you smile.   Okra is mostly house-trained and does well at home. He enjoys having cozy spots throughout the house and occasionally naps in his crate by choice.   His future family should know that Okra is smart and eager to learn. He'll benefit from continued training, especially when it comes to meeting other dogs on walks. He gets very excited when he sees canine friends and would love to introduce himself immediately, often expressing that enthusiasm with some barking and leash pulling. Because he's small, he's easy to manage, but he'll need someone committed to helping him practice calmer greetings.     What makes Okra special isn't just his adorable bunny hops or his fluffy good looks—it's the way he blossoms when he feels safe. Beneath his initial shyness is a loving, loyal, funny little dog who wants nothing more than to be close to his people. Give him a little time, a couple of good walks each day, and a squeaky ball to chase, and he'll reward you with endless companionship, devotion, and entertainment.   If you're looking for a smart, affectionate sidekick who will happily follow you from room to room and make you laugh every day, Okra may just be your perfect match.
