Description

Rusty is an energetic, playful boy who would do great in an active household with kids.  He is ridiculously affectionate and must sit next to his foster mom with his paws on her lap at night when they watch TV.  He is almost too affectionate and very much like a dog rather than a cat.  Rusty is considered a special needs kitty becausae of all of his illnesses he has had.  Rusty and his sister Audrey started off at Heartland as wee sickly babies in Aug of 2023.    He was nursed backed to health and eventually adopted out at 5 months old.   He developed a disease called FIP and his family couldn't afford the treatment so they returned him to Heartland where we successfully treated him for it.  He is considered cured of that disease.  He developed another condition called Stomatitis and Heartland treated him for that but the treatment made him sick after a month. He also developed a condition on his paws called Pododermatitis or "Pillow Feet".  He was treated with antibiotics for both his mouth and feet and given lots of time to heal.  He no longer has either condition.  Rusty does have chronic gingivitis and must have regular dental care.  He must see a vet every year to monitor this so it doesn't turn back into stomatitis.  He also has excessive keratin grown on his paw pads but the vet has cleared him to be adopted.  That would also need to be monitored during his yearly visits.  His foster mom thinks he has a compromised immune system so he is more susceptable to certain illness.  He has recovered well from the stomatitis and pododermatis though which is a good sign.  He can live a long and heathly life with the proper care. The upside is he is a one of a kind kitty that is quite funny, playful and full of affection.  Please consider adopting this wonderful boy who deserves a home of his own. Rusty is up to date on his shots, microchipped, tested negative for FIV/FELV, treated for fleas and parasites and neutered.
