If you’re looking for a dog who wakes up every morning convinced it’s the best day ever, Maizey might just be your perfect match. This happy-go-lucky Golden Retriever is pure sunshine wrapped in fur. The moment she comes out of her crate in the morning, her excitement is contagious. Her tail wags so hard that her entire body joins in, creating the full-body wiggle that Golden Retriever lovers know and adore. Maizey greets every day with enthusiasm, joy, and a toy in her mouth if she can find one! During the day, Maizey is happiest being close to her people. Whether you’re working from home, relaxing on the couch, or getting ready for bed, she’ll be right there beside you. She’s the kind of dog who will happily lay at your feet while you work and then somehow end up propped on a pillow like a human when it’s time to relax. She has so much love to give and thrives on being part of the family. Maizey loves toys of all kinds, especially stuffed toys with squeakers. Fair warning: she considers squeakers a challenge and will do her best to remove them! She also loves bones, treats, and chew toys, making her easy to motivate when it’s time to learn something new. She sleeps wonderfully in her crate overnight and does well roaming freely in the home when her family is away. She knows commands including “sit,” “kennel/crate,” and “go potty,” and she’s eager to please. Like many young, enthusiastic Goldens, she can get a little jumpy when she’s excited. Because of this, she may be best suited for a home with older children, though she has done well meeting younger children on walks and would likely continue improving with training and consistency. Maizey enjoys attention and would likely thrive either as an only dog soaking up all the love or in a home with other friendly pets. She rides well in the car, loves affection, and is always ready for the next adventure. She may bark at unfamiliar or loud noises, and while a surprise clap of thunder wasn’t her favorite experience, she felt much better once she was safely inside with her people. Sweet, goofy, affectionate, and endlessly lovable, Maizey is everything people adore about Golden Retrievers. She’s ready to fill her future home with laughter, companionship, and plenty of full-body tail wags. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe.
