*** Check Out My Video Album Below! *** Meet Betty, our adorable "Pocket Pyr!" While she looks every bit like a Great Pyrenees, this petite girl is delightfully compact — proof that the best things really do come in small packages. Betty is currently in boarding and eagerly searching for her foster or forever home, where she can finally be the center of attention she so richly deserves. Betty was originally purchased to be a livestock guardian dog, but it turns out she had other plans — namely, escaping her pasture to go find her humans. Guard duty was clearly not her calling. Cuddles and companionship, on the other hand, absolutely are. She knew from the start that she was meant to be a people dog, and she hasn't looked back since. For a Pyr, Betty is remarkably low-key in the barking department, and has a medium activity level. She's happy to relax but can occasionally surprise you with a fun burst of energy. She's leash trained, rides happily in the car, and will sit politely for a treat. When meeting new people, Betty is a total sweetheart. No jumping, no overwhelming excitement, just calm and happy greetings. She seems to genuinely love everyone she meets. Betty plays well with dogs of all sizes and is comfortable enough to thrive as an only dog too. She's shown calm curiosity around the outdoor cats. Given her love of people and attention, she'd likely do well with teenagers, though she hasn't had any experience with younger children. Betty is a resourceful girl who has both climbed chain-link fencing and dug under fences in the past, so a secure six-foot fence is a must to keep this little adventurer safe at home. Betty would be a dream for a low-to-medium energy household that has plenty of love to give. She is polite, gentle, and utterly devoted to her people. If you're looking for a sweet, compact companion who simply wants to be by your side, Betty just might be the girl you've been waiting for. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes.
