Shelter staff knew this little girl needed a chance to decompress and show the world who she really was. Best Friends Pet Adoption stepped up and took Katy in. What a wonderful dog she has turned out to be! At just 14 pounds and around a year old, Katy is a petite little thing—photos don't quite capture how tiny she really is. We suspect she is a Chihuahua mix but whatever her breed mix, she's 100% lovable. Katy is the definition of "worth the wait." She can be shy when meeting new people and may voice her concerns with a few barks. But give her a little patience, kindness, and respect for her space, and you'll discover a loyal companion who loves deeply and completely. Once Katy decides you're her person, you're in. She wants to be part of everything you're doing, whether that's relaxing on the couch, playing in the yard, or simply moving through your daily routine. Her devotion is heartwarming and genuine. She feels the same way about her canine friends. While she's initially cautious with new dogs, once she realizes she's safe, her playful side bursts to life. Katy currently lives with five dogs ranging from 30 to 50 pounds and ages 1 to 14 years old, and she adores them all. She wrestles, chases, shares toys, cleans ears, and proudly participates in every aspect of pack life. In true little-dog fashion, Katy sometimes forgets she's the smallest one in the room. She'll happily use a larger dog as a step stool, bounce on floppy ears, and insert herself into whatever fun is happening. She can be vocal during play, so she'd do best with dog-savvy canine companions who understand that her bark is just her way of playing. Katy's activity level is moderate. She enjoys several rounds of play throughout the day, which help build her confidence and burns off energy. She's smart, eager to learn, and already mastering "sit."  Puzzle toys, training games, and interactive play would be wonderful outlets for her curious mind. She is currently crate trained, sleeps quietly in a crate in her foster's bedroom, and stays crated when her foster is away. She settles after some initial complaints and follows the household routine beautifully. She's also had zero accidents in her foster home. Katy will thrive with adopters who understand that trust takes time. She would likely do best with older, dog-savvy children who can respect her boundaries and allow her to warm up at her own pace. She has not yet been tested with cats. Her ideal home would include: A fenced yard for safe play and potty breaks At least one person or canine companion(s) home much of the time  Another friendly, dog-savvy dog (or two!) to play with and learn from Patient adopters willing to let her settle in and build confidence at her own pace For the lucky family willing to earn her trust, Katy will repay that love a thousand times over with loyalty, laughter, kisses, playfulness, and endless devotion. Beneath her cautious exterior is a funny, spirited, affectionate little dog just waiting for her forever family to help her shine.   EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING KATY?   If so, please fill out our dog adoption application by copying and pasting this link in a new browser window: https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC
